Collaboration between two strong maritime clusters can achieve more

During the Nor-Shipping maritime fair 2019, which is being held in Oslo from 4 to 7 June, Rotterdam Maritime Capital is looking for partners from the Norwegian maritime cluster in the field of innovation and increasing the sustainability of the port and its infrastructure, logistics, ship building and the offshore sector.

During a network business lunch, organised in association with the Dutch Embassy and Netherlands Maritime Technology, Vice Mayor for Economy, Barbara Kathmann, talks about the opportunities for companies to contribute to making the sector more sustainable. Collaborating on solutions for sustainable transport by water, such as emissions-free and autonomous sailing, is interesting in economic terms for both maritime clusters. Smart innovations also make a contribution to our shared climate targets. A great deal of research and knowledge development is required for this purpose. “Connecting two maritime hubs makes it possible to achieve more”, says the Vice Mayor of the city of Rotterdam. Vice Mayor of the Drecht Cities Maarten Burggraaf will focus on business contacts and investment opportunities.

According to the annual ranking published by the research agency MENON, both the Oslo and Rotterdam Maritime clusters are among the strongest in the world. The Norwegian cluster is particularly strong in maritime technology and business services. Lots of major shipping companies are also based in Oslo.

Rotterdam Maritime Capital of Europe is a collaboration in the maritime region of Rotterdam (from the Maasvlakte to the Drecht Cities) with the aim of developing and promoting the port and the region as the maritime capital of Europe at the international level. Besides companies involved in transport, logistics, chemicals and energy, Rotterdam is also placing companies involved in maritime business services and the manufacturing industry in the spotlight. However, shipbuilding, offshore, innovative circular technology, shipping companies and traders in commodities are also being showcased as the maritime capital's DNA. Partners are: The city of Rotterdam, the Drecht Cities, Schiedam, the Port of Rotterdam, Rotterdam Partners, Deal Drecht Cities, InnovationQuarter and the Rotterdam Port Promotion Council.
